The European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, visits the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies

12 Mar 2010. The recently appointed as new European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, visited Seville on the 12th of March. Geoghegan-Quinn had a guided tour in the morning near the Andalusian capital at Europe's largest central receiver solar power plant built by Abengoa and co-financed by the European Research programme. Later on she participated in several meetings with the IPTS' management team as well as staff representatives. A few minutes prior the tapas lunch with staff at the IPTS patio, she had a very warm speech to greet IPTS employees and to also decorate David Broster, current Head of the  Information Society Unit at the Institute for his 20 years of service at the European Commission. She was accompanied by Roland Schenkel, Director General of the Joint Research Centre who had very affectionate words to thank the IPTS Director Peter Kind for his full-time dedication to place IPTS among the best Institutes of the JRC network and to wish him a very happy retirement as the 1 May he is due to retire.
