Abstract
This report forms part of FISTE (Foresight on Information Society Technologies in an Enlarged Europe) project. It focuses on the changing competitive pressures and the potential ICT may have for economic growth in the New Member States and Candidate Countries. It recommends that policy measures should concentrate on encouraging more intensive use of ICT in certain industries and the public sector, and creating an economic and institutional environment in which the business sector would invest more in ICT. This could contribute significantly to faster economic growth through the development of the Information Society in these countries, in line with the Lisbon Strategy.
