It is now more than ten years since the first genetically modified (GM) crops were introduced into agriculture. During the decade 1996-2005, GM varieties with novel agronomic traits (commonly known as first generation GM crops) have quickly been taken up in many areas of the world. The body of evidence accumulated during this decade by many research institutions and published in scientific journals has grown to the point where a picture of the economic effects of dominant GM crops worldwide can now reasonably be obtained, and this is the purpose of this report.
