This database is the outcome of a workshop on the "Global commercial pipeline of new GM crops" that was organised by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (JRC-IPTS), on 12-13 November 2008 with international experts and stakeholders involved in the development, regulation and commercialisation of GM crops worldwide. The main objective of the workshop and subsequent desk research by the JRC-IPTS was to compile a global pipeline of new GM crops that are currently in the regulatory pipelines of various countries (soybeans, maize, rapeseed, cotton, potatoes, rice and "other" crops) and that are to be commercialised in the short to medium term (until 2015) by private and public technology providers. The database lists the status of individual GM "events". So-called "stacked" GM crops are not listed; the regulatory approach to stacks differs across the world and their situation is discussed in detail in the forthcoming workshop report.
