Abstract
This Issue Paper has been produced in the context of The Futures Project of the IPTS. It relates specifically to the analysis and projection of likely trends and plausible new developments in the field of education, in the early decades of the 21St century. The paper sketches the likely developments in the areas of formal education, 'short courses' and informal education with the advent of lifelong learning constituting the principal cross-cutting theme.
